Benoît-Pierre Emery - Hermès Scarf Designer Profile

Benoît-Pierre Emery, a distinguished Hermès scarf designer, has had an illustrious career in the world of fashion and design. A graduate of the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris and the Royal College of Art in London, Emery began his career as an independent graphic designer for various clients, including Comme des Garçons, Canal +, and LVMH. Over the years, he has served as the artistic director for numerous projects spanning diverse domains such as publishing, multimedia, scenography, and visual identity for many brands.

In 2000, Emery founded the graphic design studio ‘Le Cabinet’, which boasts an impressive client roster including Arte, Paris Première, Cabane de Zucca, and Kenzo. In 2003, he decided to redirect his career towards fashion accessories, developing his own brand of silk scarves under the label “Les Soieries Modernes”. This debut collection was produced by Ateliers AS, a subsidiary of Hermès.

In 2005, Emery met Pierre-Alexis Dumas, who invited him to design his first scarf for Hermès in honor of the tenth anniversary of the 24 Faubourg perfume. This initial project marked the beginning of a long and fruitful collaboration, resulting in the creation of over twenty silk scarves and numerous other product families. Some of his notable designs include Brides rebelles, Cheval de légende, Circuit 24 faubourg, Ex-libris en camouflage, Faubourg by night, Galop chromatique, Hermès en voyage, Indian dust, and Étude pour un iris arc-en-ciel.

Starting in 2006, alongside his collaborations with Hermès, Emery served as the artistic director of silk, designing the stoles and scarves line for Kenzo for twelve seasons. In 2007, following the creation of the “Mosaïque au 24” silk scarf, he designed his first tableware service for Hermès under the same name. Available in Gold and Platinum, “Mosaïque au 24” has become one of the brand’s emblematic services. In 2011, he co-designed the first contemporary tableware service for Hermès, “Rallye 24”, with his designer friend Damian O’Sullivan. He went on to create several other tableware services, such as “H Déco”, “Voyage en Ikat”, and “Accostage”.

On January 1, 2013, Benoît-Pierre Emery was appointed Creative Director of La Table Hermès and Objets. In this role, he launched and directed the creation of a new capsule collection called “Equilibre”, which was first presented at the Milan Furniture Fair in 2016. This exceptional home object collection unveiled its fourth edition in April.

Emery continues to regularly design scarves in line with his passion for silk. Over the years, he has built a unique collection of vintage silk scarves, with a book project currently in the works, set to feature a portion of the ten thousand pieces he has amassed.
