Christian Renonciat

Christian Renonciat is a talented French sculptor and designer, known for his exceptional wood sculptures and creations. Born in Paris in 1947, he studied at the Sorbonne, where he earned a degree in philosophy. In 1969, Renonciat joined an art workshop in Antibes, where he spent six years mastering the art of woodworking. In 1975, he opened his own workshop in Valbonne, giving birth to his first sculptures.

After returning to Paris, he held his first exhibition in 1978 at the Alain Blondel Gallery. Over the years, Renonciat’s interest in the material essence of objects became more defined, as he sculpted wood into various representations, ranging from hyperrealistic to nearly abstract pieces.

Since 1984, he has also been involved in creating monumental artworks, combining imagination and technique using diverse materials such as cast iron, bronze, aluminum, and gardens, often evoking the tone of an imaginary archaeology. His installations can be found in various cities around the world, including Saumur, Tokyo, Sapporo, Atlanta, San Francisco, Monte-Carlo, Aytré, La Rochelle, Paris, Issy, Reims, London, and Seoul.

Today, Renonciat returns to the essence of materials in his large sculpted wood compositions that resemble tapestries made of fabric, plastic, wool, paper, or cardboard. As a designer for Hermès, Christian Renonciat created the following scarf:
