This elegant pair of antique French open salt cellars exudes sophistication. Crafted from 950 purity silver, each oval-shaped cellar stands on four scrolled feet. The exterior is beautifully decorated with scrollwork, garlands, and a medallion, complementing the removable deep cobalt-blue glass liners. Hallmarked with the French Minerva 1st Standard Mark, Paris (since 1838), these cellars are a treasure for collectors and enthusiasts of fine antique silverware. The maker’s mark, stamped underneath the holder, is unfortunately indistinct and unidentifiable due to its blurred appearance.
Condition : This pair of salt cellars is in great condition. The silver holders’ exteriors are nicely preserved with only minor scratches, signs of use, and some oxidation. The interiors have tarnish marks that would benefit from deep cleaning and polishing. The glasses show minor scratches and small chips at the rim’s edge, but these do not affect their functionality. One cellar has a slight wobble and the other is more noticeably unstable on a flat surface. For a detailed view of these aspects, please see the attached video. Overall, the condition remains excellent and they function very well.
