This rare WMF Art Nouveau Silver Plated Pitcher is a testament to the exceptional artisanship of Württembergische Metallwarenfabrik, a distinguished German brand established in the 1850s, known for its exquisite silver-plated metalware. The pitcher is a celebration of Art Nouveau elegance, showcasing a gracefully embossed lady amidst intricate floral patterns, a hallmark of the era’s aesthetic.
This pitcher is adorned with an ‘antique silver finish’ signified by the ‘as’ mark and is silver-plated to ‘I/O’ standard, which indicates the normal thickness of silver-plating. The jug’s base proudly displays the WMF manufacturer’s mark with the addition of ‘B’, forming the inscription ‘WMFB’. These four-letter inscriptions signify the combination of ‘WMF’ with ‘B’, denoting the base metal used for silvering as Britannia metal, a specific type of high-quality pewter, ensuring its authenticity.
Condition : This esteemed antique maintains a remarkable state of preservation, presenting minimal evidence of age with only light scratching. The rim around the pitcher’s opening exhibits a subtle indication of wear, yet it is overall very well preserved. The interior displays noticeable persistent stains (Not plate wear) which could be significantly reduced with meticulous cleaning.
